Some general things:
- A new site has launched: GOG.COM - they sell pc oldies and use DOSBox for their DOS titles. The games are DRM-free and not expensive, which might be convenient in these economic times.
(Redneck Rampage+2 expansions+soundtrack or Fallout for $ 5,99).
- If you are running DOSBox on Ubuntu 8.10 (or some other distro that uses the evdev driver in X) you will notice that some keys don't work, most noticiable the arrow keys.
This is because Ubuntu changed something related to the scancodes, we are working on it, but as none of us runs Ubuntu 8.10 it is not top priority. If you have an English/American keyboard layout then (and only then!) you can use the following workaround. Open a console and enter the following command:
echo -e "[sdl]\nusescancodes=false\n" >>~/.dosboxrc
We will have it fixed in the next version though.
- Speaking of the next version. Aside from tons of bug fixes , we have some nice changes for the next version:
- EGA emulation including irq 2.
- A special VGA emulation mode to allow things we normally disable for speed or other reasons. (8+1 pixel wide fonts, changing palette while updating the screen.)
- More SVGA cards (users of the CVS versions of DOSBox will know this as "vasyl" patch)
- Improved CDROM emulation under Vista.
There is no release date set, but it won't be this year.
- In the near future the frontends listing from the downloads page will be moved to frontends.dosbox.com
So if you are a frontend maker or knowledgeable user, feel free to edit the information about your favorite frontend as it is a wiki.

After careful studying the statistics we have determined that
on 21 July DOSBox was downloaded for the 10.000.000th time.
There were 4 people that guessed this day and a winner has been randomly selected from them and will be contacted shortly to receive the price!

DOSBox is close to being downloaded 10.000.000 times ! (total of all versions.)
(Un)fortunately the statistics of sourceforge are down until at least mid august (and have been for almost a month now).
To celebrate this event we have come up with a small contest.
Guess the right date (somewhere between 18 June and 15 August) and win a copy of Dune ("Sold out" edition CD-version). Send an email to "contest has ended" with your guess. The winner will be declared once the statistics of sourceforge are back online.
If you want to congratulate us, please use the email address on the Crew page or the forum.

It is again good news for the Mac users of DOSBox.- A new frontend Boxer has arrived. It aims to make DOS emulation easy and configuration-free.
- Dapplegrey, another Mac frontend for DOSBox has been updated to 1.9.2
I've been interviewed by DOSGuy of www.classicdosgames.com. I'm not much of a talker, but it turned out quite alright. |

As you might have noticed the url for this page has changed.
We are very happy with the new domainname and would like to ask all webmasters to update their links to DOSBox.
If you encounter problems with the new domain or the slightly updated site, please post in the forums.
